Ellis Island or Empire State Building??

I am going to GYLC in the summer and we get to choose which sites in new york we want to visit. I have narrowed my choices down to two: the Empire State Building or Ellis Island. Which one should I choose. I would love to visit both but I am sort of leaning towards the Empire State Building. Any advice??
