Protestantism vs Catholicism? Which is closest to the truth?

Actually, Islam is the truth. We acknowledge Jesus Christ (pbuh) too as the Messiah and the Son of the Virgin Mary. I would give it a gander because it is the only other complete religion that acknowledges Jesus Christ (pbuh) as a very important person.
