Asteroid belt???????????????????????

Could it be possible that the Asteroid belt was created from an entire Planet,however big, that just simply blew up in one God Almighty bang and that the pieces flew apart so fast that they never had time to slow down and slowly re emble and instead became the Asteroid Belt that we know today??
